Transatlantic airline alliances: competitive issues and regulatory approaches
A joint research project by the European Commission and the United States Department of Transportation

The primary goal of this joint research project was to come to a common understanding of the transatlantic airline industry, in order to work out compatible regulatory approaches to competition issues in the airline sector. The two most fundamental conclusions of this study are the remarkable similarities between the current competitive structures of the airline industries in the US and Europe and the remarkable similarities in the trends that continue to shape them, in spite of the significant differences in their historical development.
