IATA economic briefing of the impact of Eyjafjallajokull's volcanic ash plume in April 2010
Airspace closure due to volcanic ash caused airlines to lose around 400 million dollars a day.

By Monday 19, European airspace closures caused airlines to lose around US$400 million per day from scheduled services.
In terms of passenger numbers the biggest markets affected were the domestic markets of the UK, Germany and France. But airline revenues were much more affected by the closure of the UK-US market, which accounted for US$25 million dollars of scheduled passenger revenue a day and 8% of the total. Germany and France also had sizeable airline revenue streams from the US market at stake.

Over 1.2 million scheduled passengers were being affected each day. The European Commission estimate the total number of passengers unable to travel over the whole period at 10 million.
