Description
**Presentation Dr. William Swan at the second Airneth Annual Lecture**
On 15 January 2010, Dr. William Swan will give the 2nd Airneth Annual Lecture about airline network evolution and the role of aircraft technology. Dr. Swan was the Chief Economist for Boeing Commercial Airplanes between 1996 and 2005. Airneth is proud that Dr. Swan continues the Airneth Annual Lecture series, which started with Professor Levine's lecture in 2009.
Dr. Swan was the Chief Economist for Boeing Commercial Airplanes from 1996 until his retirement in 2005. He forecast air travel among all regions of the world for 20 years forward. This is the basis for Boeing’s long-range plans, and for the annual Current Market Outlook document, which is the industry standard forecast. As an aviation economist, Dr. Swan was responsible for understanding both the fundamentals of forecasts for country GDPs and also the mechanisms by which economic and industry developments cause air travel growth.
Dr. Swan’s educational background includes a Ph.D. in Transportation Systems from M.I.T and time spent on the research staff of M.I.T.’s Flight Transportation Lab. His undergraduate work was in Aeronautical Engineering at Princeton University. Dr. Swan is visiting professor at Cranfield University, and CAAC in Tianjin, China. He has lectured and advised thesis work at Cambridge (England), MIT, Georgia Tech, Univ of British Columbia (Canada), ENAC (Toulouse, France), Univ of Antwerp (Belgium), DIT (Dublin, Ireland), Israel (Jerusalem and Haifa), and CAMIC (Bejing, China). He is a frequent speaker at forecasting, finance, and operations research conferences.
