Kurt van Dender

Kurt Van Dender is a Senior Tax Economist in the Tax Policy and Statistics Division of the OECD’s Centre for Tax Policy and Administration, where he also leads the team working on “Tax and the Environment. Earlier, he was the Chief Economist of the International Transport Forum, and a Professor of Economics at the University of California at Irvine. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Leuven in Belgium

Kurt’s current work focusses on the use of taxes to pursue non-tax policy objectives. This includes work on environmental, transport and climate policy, and on the use of tax incentives for investment policy. Earlier work considered models of competition in congestion-prone markets, including air transportation. He has published in leading academic journals and he has contributed to several reports published by the International Transport Forum and the OECD, including on carbon pricing
